Lola Kowall, 82, of Port Monmouth, passed away Feb. 16, 2022. Lola was raised in Brooklyn, a daughter of the late Elizabeth and Edward Southwick. After marrying, she and her husband Joseph settled in Port Monmouth in 1973 to raise their young family. Lola worked at Hook, Line and Sinker in Rumson for over 30 years, retiring as a manager.

Lola was one of a kind. She always found the best in everyone and every situation. She never complained, not even while battling cancer. She loved people, especially her family, and could talk to anyone. Her grandchildren would say that she was the best Mom Mom ever.

Lola also loved her pets. Over the years she had many cats, dogs and even a bird. She could often be found outdoors enjoying the sun or a beautiful garden; gardenias were her favorite flower. She looked forward to summer and spending time at the beach or at the Middletown Swim Club and, if the weather was not great here, she traveled to where it was warm and sunny.

She will fondly be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.

Lola was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Joseph Kowall, in 2015. She is survived by their two children, Christopher (Ray Anne) Kowall and Kimberly Kowall, and two grandchildren, Madison and Daniel. She also leaves behind a sister, Marie “MiMi” Greenhouse and two brothers, William Demeter and John Demeter.

Friends and relatives paid their respects Feb. 21 at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals. The funeral service was held at St. Mark’s Church in Keansburg. Burial and committal followed at Bayview Cemetery.
