Louis A. (Drew) Wenning, 72, of Long Branch, passed away Oct. 4, 2024, with his family by his side. Drew was born Oct. 7, 1951, in Long Branch to Claudia Wenning and Louis J. (Bud) Wenning.
Drew grew up in Elberon and then lived in Monmouth Beach, Sea Bright and Long Branch. Drew graduated from Long Branch High School and attended the University of New Mexico. He was an owner and operator of Wenning & Son’s Wholesale Meats on Pearl Street in Long Branch. Drew worked for the family business for 50 years before retiring in August 2020. Wenning & Son’s Wholesale Meats was founded by Drew’s grandfather Louis Wenning (PopPop) in 1922.
Drew loved the beach, surfing, nature, art and music. He was a lifelong fan of the New York Giants and Yankees. Drew and his family enjoyed annual vacations to Mexico and traveled throughout Central America.
Drew is survived by his former wife Kathy Smith-Wenning and their two sons, Brian and John Wenning of Long Branch; two grandchildren, Brooklyn and Gabrielle; his siblings, Jan Wenning of Clarksville, Maryland, Michael Wenning and wife Jane of Shrewsbury, Peg Riley and husband John of Shrewsbury, and Dennis Wenning and Tara Kiss of West Long Branch. Drew is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many very close friends from the New Jersey Shore.
