Dr. Douglas A. Love, 81, founder and CIO of The Stronghold Group, Ltd., passed away peacefully at his Rumson home on Tuesday, June 17. He was a graduate of The Lawrenceville School, class of ‘53, and held a BME in industrial engineering and thermodynamics from Cornell. While at Cornell, he was an All-American swimmer and cross country runner. He went on to earn an MBA in mathematical statistics from NYU/Cornell as a Ford Foundation Fellow and Ph.D. in economics from Columbia University as an International Fellow and a National Science Foundation Fellow.

Dr. Love served on the NJ State Investment Council and was an adjunct professor at the NYU and Rutgers University Business Schools as well as a visiting professor at Tianjin University of Finance and Economics (China). He was well published and served as a recognized voice in financial strategy. Douglas was from Ridgewood but claimed the Barnegat Bay as his home. His love of sailing, tennis, surfing and music fueled his soul. Douglas and his wife, Peggy, recently celebrated their 50th anniversary.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Ashley Love of Annapolis, Maryland, and Ingrid Harding of Amelia Island, Florida; his son-in-law, Dr. Peter Harding; three grandchildren, Pierce, Sarah and Gretchen Harding; a sister, Barbara J. Love of New York City; and a brother, Charles A. Love of Melbourne, Florida.

Several memorials are being planned in Douglas’ honor this summer on Barnegat Bay. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Girl Power 2 Cure foundation for Rett Syndrome in honor of his granddaughter, Sarah Harding.
