Luc Vaval Jr., 85, of Middletown, passed away peacefully May 9, 2023, at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. He was born in Port Au Prince, Haiti, and lived on Staten Island before moving to Middletown.

Luc graduated from the prestigious Italian Naval Academy in Livorno, Italy. He served for 10 years as a Naval Officer for the Haitian Coast Guard, and then worked at Caddell Dry Dock, Staten Island, as a chief estimator when he retired. He was an inspiration to many and led by example.

In his spare time, he was a talented carpenter, enjoyed making furniture and spoke four languages. He will be sorely missed.

 Surviving are his beloved wife of 57 years, Mireille (née Alerte) Vaval; two daughters, Nathalie (Steven) Turner and Gaelle (Christopher) Campos; four grandchildren, Dominique and Donovan Turner, and Tatum and Lucas Campos; and his siblings, Nicole Vaval, Gerard Vaval, Daniel Vaval and Maxime Vaval and their families.

A memorial Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. May 24
at Mary, Mother of God Church, 19 Cherry Tree Farm Road, Middletown.
