Madeleine Cox of Oceanport passed away peacefully Jan. 4, 2025, at the age of 79, surrounded by her loving children.

Born in Jersey City to Philip and Grace Smeds, Madeleine embodied compassion, strength, resolve and resilience. Her selflessness and caring nature touched everyone who knew her, and her devotion to her family, friends and faith knew no limits.

Having children settled in different parts of the country, Madeleine dedicated her life to growing meaningful and loving relationships with her children and grandchildren. Her children will remember her fierce approach to life and her unwavering love and support. Her grandchildren will forever remember and cherish her “Nanny hugs.”

When Madeleine was not doting on her family, she enjoyed reading, activities at the senior center and spending time on the beach.

Madeleine is survived by her children, William Cox Jr. (Misty), Dawn Hunter and Jennifer Ferraro (Frank); her eight grandchildren, Arienne, Trey, Ian, Taylor, Hollyn, Rachel, Mia and Ella; and her two great-grandchildren, Drew and Murphy, who will all miss her dearly. She was predeceased by her son Philip Cox, grandson Andrew, and son-in-law Richard.

Visitation was held Jan. 10 at Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 11 at St. Dorothea’s Church, Eatontown. Interment was private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association at heart.org.
