Madison Claire Backiel gained her angel wings Monday morning, May 20, 2024. She passed peacefully at home with her family. Madison fought a lifelong battle with health complications following a rare meningitis diagnosis when she was just 11 days old. She was a true mommy and daddy’s girl. Anyone who met her knew her sweet angelic face, beautiful blue eyes and fire-red curly hair.

Madison loved being outside in the sun and in the pool. She adored her siblings and cousins so much.

Madison is survived by her parents, John and Kelly; siblings Caroline and Theo; grandparents John Sr., Gail, Terri and Jackie; and aunts, uncles and six cousins.

Visitation was May 24 at the Holmdel Funeral Home, Holmdel. A Mass of Christian burial was offered May 25 at St. Elizabeth Church of Hungary in Linden. Burial followed at St. Gabriel’s cemetery in Marlboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Madison’s memory to the National Organization for Rare Disorders at rarediseases.org, an organization working to solve the greatest challenges and unmet needs in rare disease patient care, treatment and research.
