Margaret A. Letts, 82, of Red Bank, passed away Aug. 29, 2024, at Riverview Medical Center. Peggy (Mommom or Nanny, as her many grandchildren lovingly referred to her) was most passionate about the big, beautiful family that was birthed from her love with her beloved husband, Jimmy. She will be missed terribly by those who love her and her cat, Winnie.

In her working years, she proudly worked in health care as a lab technician for Shrewsbury Blood Bank and volunteered her time as first lieutenant of the Fairview First Aid Squad. Always helping in her community, she was awarded Woman of the Year in Middletown for her contributions.

At home, Peggy always kept an open door, becoming a second mom and offering a home to many in her children’s lives. As an avid collector, she excitedly ran an antique booth with her husband and enlisted the help of her children and grandchildren along the way, creating many memories that will be forever cherished.

Peggy was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, James F. Letts III; her parents, Robert and Ann Kauffman; her siblings, Robert Kauffman and Judith Foy; and her son-in-law Jacques Cartier.

Surviving are her children and their spouses whom she loved as her own: Susan and Joe Purwin, Kelly and Jim Brickle, Lynda Cartier-Williams and Wayne, Jamie and Joe Gambale, Megann and Todd Burrus, and James F. IV and Melissa Letts. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and her brother Jack Kauffman.

Visitation was Sept. 3 at the John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral Mass was offered Sept. 4 at St. Agnes Church, Atlantic Highlands. Entombment followed at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
