Margaret “Peg” Yanick of Middletown passed away in her home while surrounded by family Nov. 13, 2021, at age 95. She was born in Bristol, England, where she met the love of her life, John Yanick, an American who was stationed overseas during World War II, at a dance.
They married and started a family, then moved to Jersey City after the war. They lived there for almost 35 years before moving to Pleasant Mount, Pennsylvania, in 1980 to get out of the city, where their children and grandchildren loved to visit and still think of fondly. Peg lived with her daughter Melanie and her family in Middletown since 1994.
Peg was a devout Catholic and parishioner at St. Agnes Church in Atlantic Highlands. She adored her family and loved to travel. She loved playing games, especially cards and Scrabble (no one could beat her!) and she also kept busy with crossword puzzles and Sudoku. She was a great dancer and an amazing story teller.
Surviving are her daughter Melanie (Hank) Devlin; son John H. (Grace) Yanick; three grandsons, Sean H. Devlin, Michael (Cher) Catanzaro and Anthony (Amy) Catanzaro; seven granddaughters, Erin M. Devlin, Brynne E. Devlin, Meagan A. Yanick, Lauren Yanick, Leone Cueto, Janice Stefanski and Marianne Hurley; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Peg was preceded in death by her husband John Yanick Jr.; father Henry J Chivers; mother Catherine Donovan; daughter Yanina Catanzaro; son Gregory J. Yanick; daughter-in-law Patty Yanick; sisters Sylvia Nail and Nina Rhodes; and brothers Jim Chivers and Baby Norman Chivers.
Visitation was held Nov. 16 at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral Mass was offered Nov. 17 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help-St. Agnes RC Church, Atlantic Highlands. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in Peg’s name to a charity of your choosing.
Arrangements are under the direction of John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.
