Marie J. Murphy of Ocean Township passed away peacefully at home Sept. 28, 2024.

Marie was born in Atlantic Highlands and lived most of her life in Red Bank, Little Silver and Eatontown before moving to Ocean Township three years ago. She graduated from Red Bank High School and was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Red Bank. In 1994, she retired from Monmouth Regional High School in Tinton Falls as a financial secretary. After retirement, Marie was a hostess at the Olive Garden in Toms River for 14 years.

Marie was predeceased by her husband Joseph; daughter Sharon Jones; granddaughter Nicole Theresa Moore; brother Frank Castello; sister Anne McCue, who raised her; sister Angela Fagan; brother Victor Costello and wife Angie; mother and father Mary and Nicholas Castello; niece Maryann Burke, who was like a sister to her; son-in-law Kevin McLean; nephew Nick Castello; and her friend Harry Stetzko.

She is survived by daughters Carol Moore McLean and Lynn Alegre; sons-in-law Charles Jones and Ex William Moore; granddaughters Laura and husband David Rowles, Tara and husband Ranga Reddy, Erica and husband Chris Loesch, and Samantha and husband Chris Dowd; grandson Wayne Alegre Jr.; great-grandson Shiva Reddy; great-granddaughter Victoria Jones; Keagan, Adams and Dawsen Loesch; niece Marge Genovese, who was like a sister to her; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Her love and devotion were to her family, especially to the loves of her life, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from 3 to 7 p.m. Oct. 3 at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 4 at The Oratory Church of St. Anthony of Padua, 124 Chestnut St., Red Bank.
