Maureen Leahy

Maureen Leahy, of Highlands, passed away May 15, 2021, at home after a difficult battle with cancer.

She grew up in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City where she met her husband Jimmy. After they got married and had children they moved to Weehawken. They had a bungalow in Highlands right next door to her sister Carol and her family. She loved spending summers at Connor’s Beach Club. It was there she and her husband Jimmy developed life-long friendships, and eventually they moved to Highlands full time. Her sweet smile, infectious laugh, and kind disposition are known by many. It is rare you find someone who will not speak ill about anyone, though this is who she was and she will be deeply missed.

She was predeceased by her husband James Leahy in 1996, her son Michael Leahy in 2019, her sister Barbara Holly and nephew Brian Morgan.

Surviving is her loving daughter Michele Leahy, with whom she had a very close relationship. There wasn’t a day that went by they didn’t speak. They loved going out to dinner together and Maureen was always up for whatever shenanigans may come up.

Also surviving are her sister Carol Morgan, her nieces and nephews, Jimmy, Kerry, Debbie and Kevin, and her great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation was May 19 at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home in Middletown. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Agnes RC Church in Atlantic Highlands. Interment followed at St. John’s Cemetery in Queens, New York.
