George Mavrookas, 92, of Colts Neck passed away Aug. 18. Born in Anavryti, Greece, he came to the United States in 1955 and settled in Perth Amboy before settling in Colts Neck 48 years ago.
He was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Perth Amboy for 60 years. He was a member of the Church Board and a member of AHEPA. He and his wife Matina were the owners of the Premium Diner in Avenel and the Colts Neck Inn in Colts Neck.
George was predeceased by his brother John Mavrookas and a sister Demetra Mavrookas.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Matina; sons Peter, Dino and Louie Mavrookas; daughters Stella Kolb, Kateina Ganiaris and Fay Gianaris; sisters Georgia Papageorgiou and Pota Komini; and by his 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Aug. 21 at the Holmdel Funeral Home, Holmdel. A Funeral Liturgy was offered Aug. 22 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Perth Amboy. Interment followed at the Holmdel Cemetery, Holmdel.
