Maurice T. “Moe” McGowan, 68 of Leonardo, passed away peacefully Oct. 4 at Riverview Medical in Red Bank. Moe was born Oct. 20, 1951 in Long Branch and went on to attend Mater Dei High School and graduated from Georgian Court College. After growing up in Belford, he met his beloved wife of 43 years, Diane, and raised their children in Leonardo.
Moe worked for Verizon for 33 years as a system technician, but his true passion was coaching, especially for the BYAA little league teams.
Moe was predeceased by his parents, John and Catherine McGowan, as well as his brothers Johnny and Bobby.
Moe was the devoted father of Thomas McGowan, Joseph McGowan and his wife Sara, Jessica McGowan and her fiancé Anthony, and Amy and her husband Michael Catapano. Moe is survived by his grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Aidan, Reece, Mason, Jackson, Emily, Austin and Dylan. He is also survived by his siblings Pat, Billy and Noreen, as well as his sister-in-law Corine and all of his many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
Moe had many joys in life, some of which were gardening the lawn, football, baseball and wrestling. Of all his joys, it was his family that made him shine brightest, especially spending time with his grandchildren. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Moe reposed Oct. 7 at the Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home, Middletown.
