Melicia, Dominick D., Red Bank

476

Dominick “Dom” D. Melicia of Red Bank passed away suddenly Dec. 23, 2018. Born in Perth Amboy, he chose Monmouth County in which to raise his family. Dom loved his family and friends and was a hard worker in the many successful restaurant/delis he owned and operated including Dom’s Willow Deli in Little Silver, Dom’s Cherry St. Deli in Shrewsbury and Dom’s Drive Inn and the Oasis Grill, both in Long Beach Island.

Most will remember Dom for his readiness to talk about anything with anyone and always with a smile on his face. He loved food and would show his love for all when he prepared a meal. His was a life well-lived; he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, whether on trips to Atlantic City, playing cards or enjoying watching the sport of boxing or a good movie. He spent many winters in Marco Island, Florida, and was famous for adding a four-legged friend to his family.

Dom’s commitment to family started with his steadfast devotion to his beloved wife of 61 years, Joan. He spent the last few years of his life holding Joan’s hand, talking to her about their life, children and grandchildren. He sat by her side as she lived with Alzheimer’s, but he loved her daily and deeply. They were made for each other and showed others their commitment to marriage and family.

Dominick was predeceased by his parents, Albert Melicia and Anna Tanaway Melicia. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years Joan (neé Brownridge) Melicia; his sons, Michael, Mark (Tara Kelty) and Garrett; his daughters, Lauren (Frank) Procopio, Lesley (Ed) Mazzilli; and his sisters, Isabelle Morgan and Carol (Mike) Chanowich. His memory will be cherished by his 14 grandchildren.

Visitation was held Dec. 28 at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Dec. 29 at St. Dorothea RC Church in Eatontown with interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.

The family requests that donations in memory of Dominick be made to: Alzheimer’s New Jersey, 425 Eagle Rock Ave., #203, Roseland, NJ  07068.
