Michael J. Toner

1302

Michael J. Toner, 53, a longtime resident of Belford, peacefully passed away Nov. 7 surrounded by his family at home after a long battle with cancer. Michael was born Dec. 28, 1966 in Kearny, a son of the late Aileen and Joseph Toner. He began working as a young man helping at the Belford Co-op docks. He then got his electrician’s license and worked for Broadway Lighting, Amtech and Sylvania before starting his own business, MJT Lighting.

Michael was an avid Mets and Jets fan. He enjoyed fishing, boating and spending time with his family. He was the “go-to” man in the family. He was always willing to offer advice or teach his trade to a younger generation. His daughter, nieces and nephews meant the world to him and he loved spending time with them.

Michael is survived by his devoted wife of 12 years Jenna Toner and their daughter Hannah. Michael also leaves behind his sisters and their husbands: Mary Toner-Stiffler, his twin; Anne Toner-Masi and Matt Masi; Catherine and Louie Lewallen; Eileen and Larry Brought; and twins, Margaret Toner and Suzanne Toner-Patterson. He also leaves his sister-in-law Anna Feng, nieces Winnie and Linda, nephew Gary and many other nieces, nephews and extended family members in China, Scotland and Ireland with whom he stayed in touch.

A Memorial Gathering will take place from 4-7 p.m. Nov. 12 at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals. A service will conclude the evening.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
