Beloved family member and friend Michael Mark Shamlian, 39, of Highlands, passed away surrounded by family and friends

Michael was born Jan. 22, 1982, to his loving parents Grace and Bob Shamlian. Growing up in both the Leonardo section of Middletown and in Highlands, he was loved by many throughout the Bayshore community. He was known for his kind heart, beautiful smile and his magnetic personality. To Michael, his family was his corner stone. His older brother Stephen, who has a mental disability, would be calmed by Michael who would talk to him in a calm and caring manner to help ease his nerves. Michael would spend a lot of time with his older sister Carolyn McTernan, his brother-in-law Mark McTernan and their three children. Michael was very close with his three nephews Tyler, 18, Jacob, 16, and Conner, 11. Anyone who knew him would hear the stories of the times he would spend together with all of them; he was very proud his nephews.
Michael was a lover of the outdoors and would spend summers on the river and at Sandy Hook beach. He enjoyed traveling and spent many vacations with his friends. Michael was a talented cook and had a knack for entertaining and decorating. He looked forward to decorating his family’s home for the holidays and cooking for family as well as friends. Michael will be greatly missed by his family, his friends and the Bayshore community and will forever be in the hearts of his mom, dad, Stephen and Carolyn.
A memorial Mass was celebrated Dec. 18 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Highlands.
