Monique Read

Monique (Tessier) Read, 87, of Belford, passed away April 21, 2021. Monique was born in Canada. She met her husband in Canada and, after marrying, they chose to raise their family in the United States. They lived in Elizabeth before settling in Belford in 1969.

Monique was a communicant of St. Mary’s Parish where she was a eucharistic minister and CCD teacher for many years; in her later years she also attended St. Catherine’s. She was a nurse at Riverview Hospital and for the Visiting Nurse Association. Monique was the most kindhearted and caring woman you could ever meet. She raised six children. Once the children were older, Monique went to nursing school and became a Registered Nurse at the age of 42.

Monique loved whatever she did and always gave 110 percent. In her quiet time, she enjoyed knitting and even belonged to a knitting club. She was a people person and could talk your ear off if given the chance. She will always be fondly remembered as a loving and devoted mother and Mémé.

Monique was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Ernest Jack Read Sr., in 1998. She is survived by their children: four daughters, Louise Carver of Hazlet; Elizabeth Read of Hazlet; Joyce Read of Middletown; and Margaret Aguilar of Idaho; along with two sons: James Read of Belford; and John Read of Middletown. She also leaves behind her brother, Jean-Guy Tessier, of Canada; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her sister, Roland Roy, passed away in Canada, the same day as Monique.

Friends and relatives paid their respects April 25 at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 26 at St. Catherine’s Church.

The burial and committal followed at Bayview Cemetery.
