Monmouth Museum’s Holiday Exhibit Celebrates ‘All Things Jersey’

311

The Monmouth Museum’s annual holiday exhibition celebrates “All Things Jersey,” with trees and trimmings decorated by local garden clubs and the Friends of the Museum that highlight the state’s history, culture, and traditions.

Trees will feature themes including Lighthouses of the Jersey Shore, Garden State Crops, Music of New Jersey, New Jersey Birds, Towns of New Jersey, Fun Facts and more. As in years past, the museum’s model train layout plays a prominent role in the holiday festivities. The ten by twenty-four foot O Gauge layout travels from the mountains to the seashore through farmlands and villages. The larger G Scale trains meander through a wintry, tree-filled landscape featuring train stations throughout the state.

Special holiday programs and activities are scheduled for Sunday afternoons from 2 – 3 p.m. in November and December.
On Nov. 27, Dorn’s Classic Images Photography Collection takes visitors on a journey back in time with a special presentation of period photos from the Dorn’s Classic Images Collection. The collection includes historical photographs of every aspect of bygone times from intimate studies of people as well as panoramic views of towns, river and oceanfronts, sporting events, parades, fairs and antique transportation. Dorn’s photographs are on display in the Museum’s hallway gallery and prints are available for purchase either matted or framed.
The following Sunday, Dec. 4, features “Songs of the Season” with Lisa Bouchelle. The Dec. 11 program is scavenger hunt throughout the museum in the footsteps of legendary pirate Captain Kidd.
The Museum’s Nilson Gallery will be transformed into a Holiday Gift Gallery, offering a wide variety of hand-crafted and eco-friendly gifts created by local artists. One-of-a-kind gifts include jewelry, scarves, hats and handbags, ceramics, books, journals, decorative home and garden items, and more. Photographic prints and notecards are also featured.
An opening night reception for the gallery will be held 6 – 8 p.m. Dec. 9, with music food and shopping. Regular hours for the gift gallery, open through Jan. 13., are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tuesday – Saturday; 1 – 5 p.m. Sunday, with extended hours on Friday until 9 p.m.
