NJ Transit Identifies Man Killed by Train in Little Silver

LITTLE SILVER – The pedestrian fatally struck at the White Road railroad crossing in Little Silver last week has been identified by NJ Transit as David D. Fortin, 67, of Eatontown.

According to Kyalo Mulumba, senior public information officer for NJ Transit, at approximately 4:55 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, North Jersey Coast Line train 3266, which departed Long Branch at 4:46 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive at New York Penn Station at 6:25 p.m., struck and fatally injured Fortin near White Road Crossing in Little Silver.

“There were no injuries reported to the approximately 110 customers or crew on board,” Mulumba said in an email to The Two River Times.


According to an obituary posted on the Day Funeral Home website, Fortin retired from Amtrak after working for 25 years in high-voltage electrical maintenance at Penn Station in New York City.

No other information was available about the incident. NJ Transit Police are leading the investigation.
