Evelyn H. Torrence, 84, of Middletown, died on Wednesday, August 24 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. She was born in Newark and lived in Middletown for many years. Evelyn was a 1949 graduate of Leonardo High School and a member of First Baptist Church in Red Bank.
She was a window trimmer for JJ Newberry in Red Bank for many years, following which she worked for at Howard Johnson’s Motor Lodge in Middletown and lastly for Environmental Services at Riverview Medical Center.
Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Louise Hnilicky; and her sister, Dorothy Van Pelt. Surviving are her son, Joseph Torrence of Middletown; her daughter, Shirley (Johnny) Ramsey of Catonsville, Maryland; her sister, Joan (Philip) Taylor of Concord, California; her grandsons, Gregory and Timothy Ramsey; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, September 24 at 9:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Red Bank. Interment will immediately follow at Fair View Cemetery.
