Patricia Harvey Buchsbaum, known affectionately as Pat, passed away in the early hours of Jan. 30, 2021, in Red Bank after her courageous battle with Parkinson’s. Pat was born in 1927 in St. Petersburg, Florida, eventually moving to Deal where she graduated from Asbury Park High School and was voted “Swoon Queen” senior year. She then graduated from Edgewood Park Junior College in Briarcliff, New York.
Marrying Robert “Bob” Buchsbaum in 1950 and settling down in Rumson provided a wonderful life for their family. They spent 60-plus years together, enjoying golf, bridge, croquet, annual trips abroad and all the extracurricular fun the Rumson Country Club and Seabright Beach Club provided.
Pat’s true passion however, was found in gardening, nature and appreciation of all things of natural beauty. This led Pat to become an active member of the Rumson Garden Club of America, loving every aspect of the club’s mission. Her sense of style and decorum paired with her warm friendly personality and good humor was a perfect fit for her to thrive and contribute. She enjoyed all of the club’s programs in horticulture, floral design, conservation and fundraising. She received wonderful recognition for local beautification projects, her work as RGC president, and co-chairing statewide events. She took great pride in each and every one of these endeavors, but the lasting friendships and camaraderie were what made this part of her life so meaningful.
Pat is survived by and will be dearly missed by her two children, son William “Bill” Buchsbaum (and wife Lisa Huber), Southport, North Carolina, and Scarborough, Maine, and daughter Barbara (and husband Robert Movelle), Southport, North Carolina. Also surviving and so touched by Grandma B are her four grandchildren, Lauren Buchsbaum (Los Angles, California), Christine Buchsbaum (Denver, Colorado), Sean Movelle and wife Sheila (Naperville, Illinois) and Rita Movelle Schaefer and husband Nathaniel (Indianapolis, Indiana). Pat was also recently blessed with her first great-grandchild, Charles Robert Schaefer.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers provided by Evolving Care, as well as the staff at the Atrium of Navesink Harbor, Red Bank, for all their kindness and support.
Arrangements are being handled by Thompson Memorial Home with a memorial service to be held at a future date. The family requests that should any memorial donations be made, please do so to a charity of your choice.
