Pieter H. Kreyns of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, died March 30, 2025.

He was the beloved husband of 54 years to the late Nancy J. (Seibert) Kreyns of Bethel Park; son of the late Stephan C. and Mabel A. (Hollenbeck) Kreyns; and brother of the late Stephen M. Kreyns and the late Suzanne L. (Earl) Glover.

Pieter is survived by his son Pieter (Gail) Kreyns of Mt. Laurel and daughter Julie (Michael) Hanley of Frenchtown, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pieter received his Ph.D. in materials science from the University of Arizona. He joined the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory in 1964 and retired from there in 2005 as an engineering consultant. He was honored with the ASTM Russ Ogden Award, which was presented to him in Annecy, France, in 2001 in recognition of his accomplishments in the field of science and technology of metals and alloys.

Pieter’s favorite pastime was traveling the world with his wife and children, but always returning to his greatest love, which was hiking and rafting the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River.

Friends were received at the Paul L. Henney Funeral Home in Bethel Park. A private burial will be held at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Middletown. If desired, the family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Pieter’s name to a charity of your choice.
