Marion L. “Dolly” Quartararo, 99, of Red Bank, passed away at her home, surrounded by family, on March 21. She previously lived in Roselle Park, and worked as a seamstress in the garment industry, where she met her husband, Jacob Quartararo. They shared 56 years of marriage and had a daughter, Elizabeth.
Marion was the petite but feisty matriarch of her extended family. She never forgot a birthday, and was there whenever anyone needed a hand or a home-cooked meal. She showed her love by sharing countless pots of “gravy” and meatballs with family and friends. At Church of the Assumption in Roselle Park, she sang in the choir and was involved in the Rosary Altar Society and Catholic Daughters. She later joined St. James Church, Red Bank, and belonged to the St. James Seniors club.
After her retirement from Gibson Associates, Cranford, Marion began baking for her daughter and son-in-law’s food store, Readie’s Fine Foods in Red Bank, and was famous for her coffee cakes. She was a lifelong Yankees fan, loved Dancing with the Stars, reading, and trips to the Dollar Store.
She was predeceased by her parents, Antonio and Elizabeth Rego; husband, Jacob Quartararo; brothers, James and Louis Rego; and sister, Josephine Scaturo. She is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Jack Readie; and her granddaughters and their husbands, Lisa and David Mayer, and Jill and David D’Agostino. She was beloved “Naunie” to four great-grandchildren, Emily, Mark, Hannah and Julie; and “Aunt Doll” to a host of cherished nieces and nephews. Her family is grateful to her physician, Dr. Lizett Marza, and her loving caregiver, Eugenia Konecka.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 2 at 10 a.m. at St. James R.C. Church, 94 Broad St., Red Bank, followed by interment at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
