Ranney to Honor Distinguished Alumni, Faculty

TINTON FALLS – Manhattan’s top federal prosecutor, a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Coast Guard who was a military aide to Vice President Dick Cheney during the Sept. 11 attacks and the director of broadcast operations and production for CBS Sports will be among the recipients on Saturday, Oct. 18, of the Distinguished Alumni Award at Ranney School, part of the school’s Panther Hall of Fame inductee ceremony and annual alumni reception.
Preetinder “Preet” Bhararar, Catherine Jones Kang and Stephen Gorsuch will be honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award.
Bharara graduated from Ranney in 1986 as the class valedictorian. After Ranney, he attended Harvard College, where he received an A.B. in government and went on to graduate from Columbia Law School with a J.D. in 1993.
Bharara currently serves as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, a position he has held for five years. He has earned national acclaim and praise in the media for his leadership. In this role, he oversees the investigation and litigation of all criminal and civil cases brought on behalf of the United States in the New York district, which encompasses New York, Bronx, Westchester, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Sullivan counties.
Kang attended Ranney School from seventh grade through her graduation as the valedictorian of the Class of 1985. Upon graduating, she followed her dream to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy where she served 20 years of active duty service.
During her career, she was stationed on two ships that conducted search and rescue, law enforcement and homeland security. Kang was also the navigator of the Coast Guard Barque EAGLE, America’s Tall Ship. On land, she participated in staff tours in strategic and financial management, organizational development and intelligence. From 2001 to 2003, Kang served as a military aide to Cheney during and after the attacks of Sept. 11 and coordinated emergency response and logistics among White House staff, Secret Service and the military.
Gorsuch was a member of Ranney’s first graduating class in 1967. Today, he serves as director of broadcast operations and production for CBS Sports and as the United States Tennis Association’s director of golf operations. He is a seven-time Emmy Award winner for various projects in sports television and has captured momentous historical events, including Secretariat winning the Belmont by 31 lengths, Dwight Clark making “the catch” to propel the San Francisco 49ers to Super Bowl XVI and Arthur Fiedler leading the Boston Pops in their traditional rendition of “Stars and Stripes Forever” during America’s Bicentennial Celebration.
Those being honored as Ranney Panther Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees are Richard DiBiase (posthumously), Andrea Rosen, McKenna (Gledhill) Kingdon and Molly Wilgucki.
Those being honored with the Distinguished Faculty Award are Margaret Mahon, Dr. C. Stanley Searle (posthumously), Serge Orminati, Jan Le Baron and Dr. Noel Delgado.
