LITTLE SILVER – Although having a relatively young team, Red Bank Catholic girls lacrosse coach, Lisa Caprioni, has been happy with her team’s performance thus far this season, and the Caseys (6-2) kept going Monday with an impressive 12-4 B Division North win over cross-town rival Red Bank Regional.
“We’re in first place in our division right now,” said Caprioni. “The offense and defense played pretty solidly. We were patient on offense, ran our plays well and the girls did a good job getting back on defense.”
“Top to bottom, we played a good game,” she said. “Red Bank has a good team and we held them to just two goals in each half.”
Junior attack Olivia Farrington led the way for RBC with a career high five goals while Cameron Lynch and Kristen Pezzullo both had two for RBC, which has won six in a row since losing its first two games to state powers Moorestown and Winslow Township. “They are ranked high in the state, but we played well in both games,” said Caprioni.“Farrington, Cameron Lynch and Amanda Murphy are our leading scorers. Olivia has been doing a good job both offensively and defensively.”
“That was my best game as a varsity player,” said Farrington. “My previous high was four. We’re doing very well right now and are working together as a team. Lacrosse is my only sport now although I swam earlier in high school.” RBC was in control of the game from the start, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first four minutes and never looking back. RBC had an 8-2 lead at halftime and Pezzullo scored at the start of the second half, but Red Bank’s Meghan Murray, who scored three goals in the game, tallied twice to make it 9-4. That, however, was as close the Bucs (5-3) got as RBC scored the final three goals of the game.
