Red Bank Regional girls lacrosse head coach Brook Connell thanked her nine seniors from the Class of 2020.

“There aren’t enough words to describe this incredible group of young women. We were lucky enough to have nine amazing seniors this year: Gianna Borriello, Abby Bynoe, Rebecca Goldzweig, Claudia Kelly, Mairead Kelly, Sophia LaRocca, Taylor Ryser, Devyn Stack, and Lilly Thygeson. Although this season was cut short, they continued to lead this team with a positive head on their shoulders. We are so grateful for them. This group of seniors created a great bond with their teammates. Their support, leadership, and encouragement to one another is what would have made this season a great one. We could not be more proud of each one of them. They have made a major impact and have given so much to this program over the last four years. We will miss them all but are excited to see what they will do in the next chapter of their lives!”

Boys Lacrosse

Boys lacrosse coach Matt Norman saluted his senior class.

“The RBR boys lacrosse team had very lofty expectations and goals coming into this season. The team was returning nine out of 10 starters from last year as well as several other contributors on the second and third lines of the midfield. The team would have been led by senior captains Tor Haugenes and Kevin Screen heading the offense and defense respectively. Tor is a three-year varsity starter and was second in points last season. Joining him on the attack line was likely going to be Brady Gilmartin a four-year varsity starter with 50 career points. The midfield was sure to feature AJ Abarno, a three-year varsity starter who really started coming into his own at the end of last season, and Tucker Cochrane, who did not play last season, but was a member of the team his freshman and sophomore years, a talented athlete and rugged lacrosse player. Also in the mix on the offensive side of the ball at attack/midfield was to be Patrick McVeety and Rebecca Sullivan. Patrick is a two-year varsity player and was looking forward to a breakout senior season from the work he put in this offseason. Rebecca, to my knowledge, would have been the first female to play boys varsity lacrosse after playing on the JV team last season. She was going to be a contributor for us from the faceoff X and get runs through the midfield. Between that group there was firepower all around and anyone had the ability to take the ball to the cage when they had possession. Defensively, Kevin Screen is a four-year varsity starter who would have led a formidable defense. Also on the back line would have been Mitchell Quinn, a three-year varsity player and one tough son of a gun who always made his presence known. Both Screen and Quinn would have likely rotated between close defender and LSM as they are both equally as capable with the ball in their stick as well.

This group will likely always look back and wonder what could have been with all of the returning talent from their junior year, but they will always be champions in my eyes for what they have contributed to the program.”
