Richard C. “Rick” Niehaus, 62, of Holmdel, died Oct. 28, 2023.
Rick was born in 1961 in St. Paul, Minnesota, to the late Mary E. And George A. Niehaus. He grew up in Minnesota, attended Henry Sibley High School, and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in mechanical engineering. After receiving his degree, he was employed by Factory Mutual Insurance in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for several years. His career carried him across the country from New Jersey to San Francisco and Los Angeles where he met his loving wife, Susan. After returning to New Jersey, they were married in 2005 and started a family in Little Silver and later moved to Holmdel. He worked as senior vice president at Liberty International Underwriters in New York City.
Rick had a passion for staying active. He enjoyed skiing, golfing, swimming and running marathons. He was an adventurer who lived life to the fullest. Rick also enjoyed boating, fishing, reading books and watching movies, especially Disney, Harry Potter, sci-fi thrillers, and anything Christmas or Western-themed.
Most of all Rick loved spending time with his family. They traveled to the mountains to ski, to tropical island beaches and to visit relatives in the Philippines and Germany. One of his favorite things to do was to listen to his daughters play the piano and smooth jazz. Rick was a loyal, caring husband and father, a kind and generous brother, and fun-loving and supportive to his many friends and colleagues.
Rick was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Susana Niehaus; his daughters, Samantha and Elle of Holmdel; his siblings, George R. Niehaus, Anita and her husband Larry Johnson, and Monica and her husband Tom Bayer; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18 at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A funeral service will be offered at 5 p.m. Dinner will follow at the Niehaus family home in Holmdel.
