Richard W. Donner, known affectionately to many as Richie, passed away April 22, 2026, at the age of 84.

Born Dec. 10, 1941, in Elizabeth, he was a son of the late Richard and Mildred Donner. Richie lived a life marked by hard work, loyalty and a genuine warmth that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

When Richie was 6 years old, his family moved to Atlantic Highlands, where he spent his formative years and began building the character that would define him throughout his life. He later served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1963, an experience that reflected his sense of duty and commitment to serving his country. After returning to the United States, he settled in Belford, where he made his home and became a familiar and respected presence in the community.

Richie was the proud owner and operator of Richard W. Donner Hardwood Floors, a business in which he invested not only his skill but also his heart. He loved his work and took great pride in it, earning a reputation for being dependable, meticulous and dedicated to doing the job right. His craftsmanship and strong work ethic were evident in everything he did and he approached each project with the care and attention that came naturally to him. He was a man who understood the value of honest labor and the satisfaction that comes from a job well done.

Those who knew Richie will remember him as a friendly, kind and handy man who could always be counted on. He enjoyed tinkering with classic cars and found pleasure in working with his hands, whether he was repairing, restoring or simply spending time with something mechanical.

He also loved talking to people and had a story to tell for nearly every occasion. Often, he could be found with a cold Budweiser in his hand, sharing a laugh, a memory or a bit of wisdom with anyone willing to listen. His easygoing nature and gift for conversation made him someone people naturally gravitated toward.

Richie’s life was enriched by the love of his family and the many relationships he built over the years. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Frances Donner, along with many nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory. He was predeceased by his sister, Ethel Ann Donner, and his brothers, Frederick, Robert and Thomas. The bonds he shared with his loved ones were an important part of his life, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Richie will be remembered for his steady presence, his generous spirit, and the pride he took in both his work and his life. He lived simply and sincerely, with a practical nature and a kind heart. His family, friends and all who had the pleasure of knowing him will remember his warmth, his humor and the many stories he shared along the way. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of hard work, friendship and kindness will remain a lasting tribute to the man he was.
