Roger Lynn Krouse, 83, passed peacefully in his sleep April 30 in an assisted living facility in Tinton Falls. He bravely battled both myelofibrosis and acute myeloid leukemia. He had meaningful recent visits with family from out of state and those living close by.
Roger was born June 22, 1940, in St. Louis, Missouri, and moved with the family to Rumson. He graduated from Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School where he was a star tackle for the football team. He graduated from Brown University with a history degree. He began dental school at the University of Pennsylvania and ultimately retired from a long career in the Rumson School District.
Roger was a faithful lifelong member of the Rumson Presbyterian Church and lived his life as a true Christian. Roger volunteered with meals for the needy and he tutored in an afterschool program in Red Bank. Roger loved jazz and classical music. He was a compassionate man who shared what he had by supporting numerous charities. He championed civil rights with his advocacy and donations.
Roger was an intelligent man with a direct manner willing to discuss numerous topics, even the tough ones. He loved nature and hiked all the national parks, including the Grand Canyon from rim to rim and back in two days. Family meant so much to him and he loved visiting family in Iowa, California and all around the country, including Hawaii.
Roger was predeceased by his parents, Mae and Marion, and his beloved sister Barbara Krouse Williamson.
He is survived by his brother Donald (Sandra Gay) and their children Adam (Jennifer) and their son Noah, and his daughter Rebecca Krouse James (Bryan) and their children Lila, Jordan, Emmett, Aubrey, and Gavin. He is survived by his sister Carol Krouse Sullivan and her daughters Megan and Devin. He is survived by Barbara’s husband Jerry Williamson, their children Heather Williamson Gorman (Patrick) and their children Katie, Parker and Seamus. Also surviving is Wendy Williamson (Nora Rose).
Roger will be interred at Corydon Cemetery in Corydon, Iowa, next to his parents.
