Russell Pollack, 69, of Middletown, passed away Feb. 14, 2023. 

Russ was born Sept. 13, 1953, to Claire and Edward Pollack and grew up in Brooklyn, New York, with his parents and brother Jeff. He graduated from New York University College of Business and Public Administration in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in accounting.

Russ worked in advertising while attending NYU but choose a career in the financial services industry. After a brief stay at Bache Halsey, he went to work for Sanford C. Bernstein, where, in addition to a stint as a floor broker on the NYSE, he met his beloved wife of almost 39 years, Sue.

Russ subsequently worked at High Yield Management, Inc., Fahnestock and Co. and Baycrest Partners. He retired from the latter and he and Sue founded Starting Gate Consulting, which enabled Russ’s skill and love of tax preparation and accounting to shine through. 

Russ had a passion for horse racing, which he shared with his father and father-in-law. and fulfilled his dream of owning racehorses in the early 2000s.

Russ enjoyed spending time with Sue and the family dogs. He loved music, most recently country, which he listened to while preparing taxes. He enjoyed watching classic movies, television and testing his knowledge while watching “Jeopardy!” and other game shows.

Russ is survived by his wife Sue, his sister-in-law Terry Degatano, his aunt Ruth Moses and other friends and family who loved him dearly.

A memorial service to honor Russ will be held at a later date.
