Sara Jane Mauer, 76, of Port Monmouth, passed away peacefully Sept. 24, 2021, with her loving family by her side. Sara Jane was born in Jersey City and eventually moved to Middletown with her husband to raise their daughters. She worked as a teacher for 39 years, the majority of which was for the Hazlet Board of Education. Sara Jane also volunteered many years at the Hazlet Library book sales. She was an avid reader, gardener, loved walking outside and going to Broadway plays. Her greatest passion was spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband of 46 years Michael Mauer; daughters and sons-in-law Carolyn and Andres Holguin and Kimberly Ann and Gabriel Georgeian; grandchildren, Andrew, Nate, Madison and Morgan; sisters and brothers-in-law Virginia and James Messano and Roberta and Jerry Zentner; and many nieces and nephews.
Sara Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Sebastian and Josephine Cernigliaro.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 30 from 4-8 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. A funeral liturgy will be offered Friday, Oct. 1 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church, 110 Bray Ave., Middletown. A private cremation will follow.
