Helen Sarnelle, 91, of Manchester, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, August 29. She was born Helen Fico on October 3, 1923 in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she grew up and lived the majority of her life. She was one of nine children. On December 10, 1950, Helen and her husband, Anthony, were married and started their life together. In 2004, they settled in Manchester.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Albina (Chesarini) Fico. Helen is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of 64 years, Anthony Sarnelle; her loving children, Elena Scanlon and her husband Walter of Brick, Joanne Ferrarese and her husband Mike of Massapequa Park, N.Y., Dr. Joseph Sarnelle and his wife Anne of Holmdel, Larraine Loconte and her husband John of Woodbridge and Dr. James Sarnelle and his wife Judith of Stamford, Conn.; 17 cherished grandchildren; and 12 adored great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 1 and Wednesday, September 2 at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Hazlet. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Wednesday, September 2 at St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. In respect of Helen’s wishes, she was privately cremated.
