Saverio “Sam” M. DeFilippis, 92, of Holmdel, passed away peacefully July 8, 2023.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Sam and his wife Diana moved to Holmdel in 2000. Sam served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. He was the owner and operator of Sam’s Trucking, a meat broker.

Sam enjoyed playing blackjack at Caesars in Atlantic City. He was a New York Yankees fan and held season tickets to the New York Jets. Sam was an avid bowler up into his 80s and would enjoy a round of golf as well. He always had a Cadillac that was spotless.

Sam traced his roots to Bari, Italy, always remembering his heritage. Most of all he loved his family, especially being called Uncle Sam.

Surviving is his wife of 66 years Diana and 17 nieces and nephews.

Visitation was July 11 at the Holmdel Funeral Home, Holmdel. A Mass of Christian burial was held July 12 at the Church of St. Catharine, Holmdel. Entombment followed in Holmdel Mausoleum.
