Stephen N. Grand, 83, of Atlantic Highlands, peacefully passed away at home Sept. 22. Stephen was born May 20, 1937, in Velke Trakany, Czechoslovakia, a son of the late Margaret and Stefan. He emigrated to America in 1983 with his wife and daughter. Stephen and his wife Valerie lived in Highland Park and then Edison for 25 years before moving in with their daughter and family two years ago.

Stephen held many jobs. He enjoyed working and keeping busy. He was a photographer and taught driver’s education, but his true calling was philanthropist and author. Stephen wrote and published three books. He wanted to make society a better place through educating and opening the mind.  

Stephen is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Valerie, and their daughter Lea, along with her husband Gerard and children David and Tessa of Atlantic Highlands. Stephen also leaves behind his brothers, Viktor and Julius, and sisters, Marta and Eva, all back in Slovakia.

Friends and family were invited to attend a committal service Sept. 26 at Holmdel Cemetery.
