Susan Carol George, 71, of Belford died April 29, 2023, with her family beside her. She was born in Newark, raised in Carteret and moved to Belford where she lived for 46 years.
Susan was a graduate of Carteret High School, an officer in the National Honor Society and the Future Teachers Club. Sue was the captain of the varsity football and basketball cheerleading squads as well as the MVP. She graduated magna cum laude from Jersey City State College and was inducted into the national college historical honor society, Phi Alpha Theta.
After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in social studies, Susan achieved a Master of Arts in administration and supervision from Kean College. She taught at JFK High School in Iselin and ended her career at Saint John Vianney High School. Sue was a natural-born teacher and her students loved her.
Surviving is her husband of 48 years, Jack George; brother Steve (Brenda Keller) Szakacs III; two nephews, Stephen (Nicole) Szakacs IV and Joseph (Francine) Szakacs; three great-nephews, Stephen Szakacs V, Tyler Szakacs and Nicholas Szakacs; grandmother Rose Szakacs; and many cousins and extended family. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Teresa Szakacs.
Susan loved spending time with her family. Holidays were always a family celebration and she made lifetime memories with those she loved.
Visitation was held May 7 at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral Mass was offered May 8 at Mary, Mother of God Church, Middletown. Entombment followed at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
