Mary Elaine Suso, 88, of New Rochelle, New York and formerly of Fair Haven, died Nov. 30 after a brief illness. She was born Oct 22, 1930 in Elizabeth to Dennis and Mary Ellen (Quinn) Lynes. She was a graduate of Saint Mary of the Assumption High School in Elizabeth and Mount Saint Scholastica, now Benedictine College, in Atchison, Kansas.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses: William Grimm and Deborah Shadd of Cohasset, Massachusetts; Stephen and Sebnem Suer Grimm of Istanbul, Turkey; Peter and Carol Grimm of Reading, Massachusetts; Michael and Cathy Grimm of Brooklyn, Michigan; and Kristina and Robert McCooey of Rye, New York.
She was a loving grandmother to 11: Katharine Fulk and her husband Mackenzie; Jonathan and Michael Grimm; Julia and Madeline Grimm; and Robert, Christopher, Elizabeth, Matthew, Thomas and Sean McCooey. She was a doting great-grandmother to Ellery and Beau Fulk and Eloise Collier and adored by many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Col. Anthony Suso and Richard T. Grimm; her daughter Mary Ellen Grimm; and her five brothers: John, Donald, Thomas, Jerome and Dennis Lynes.
Her family and her faith were central throughout her life and she touched many with her generosity, kindness and love. She was welcoming and gracious and had many talents, which she always shared. She was an avid bridge player and devoted countless hours volunteering. Her lovely manner, strong Irish spirit, beautiful smile and delicious cookies will be missed by many.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Dec. 7 at the Church of the Resurrection in Rye, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The ARC of Monmouth, 1158 Wayside Road, Tinton Falls, NJ 07712 or arcofmonmouth.org.
