Four months after The Two River Times broke the news that Gov. Phil Murphy’s outreach to major film production studios resulted in interest from Netflix, the entertainment company confirmed its intentions. 

Bidders have until noon Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022, to submit proposals to purchase and develop most of the remaining unsold acreage on the former U.S. Army base within the borders of Eatontown and Oceanport, now known as the “Mega Parcel.”

FORT MONMOUTH – The penultimate draft of the Request for Offers to Purchase 290 acres of Fort Monmouth termed the “Mega Parcel” is nearing final bureaucratic review. Officials said the document should appear under “Bidding Opportunities” on the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) website later this month. 

The Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority introduced a new Mega Parcel for purchase on the former U.S. Army post with an expanded use of "film and digital media," paving the way for a possible bid from Netflix.

One project in the works for years at the former Fort Monmouth has been canceled and two others have had their completion dates extended by FMERA.

Officials have reached an agreement regarding specifics of a new water tower to be installed by New Jersey American Water (NJAW) on Pinebrook Road in the Eatontown section of Fort Monmouth.
