HOLMDEL – It’s not quite happening at light speed, but preservation of Holmdel’s historic Horn Antenna is steadily gaining momentum, taking shape as Robert Wilson Park with help from a new state preservation grant.

RUMSON – As the new Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge nears completion, Rumson officials are turning their attention to West Park, a 5.72-acre borough-owned space located along the north and south sides of the bridge entrance.

FAIR HAVEN – At this week’s borough council meeting, Fair Haven moved forward with an application for a $500,000 grant from the Monmouth County Municipal Park Improvement Grant Program to fund the development of a passive waterfront park at 21 Fair Haven Road.

HIGHLANDS – Federal policy moves could jeopardize a multimillion-dollar flood mitigation and green infrastructure project in Highlands, as FEMA officials announced they are ending the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant program, a key funding source for the project.

RED BANK – The Two River Times recently received a Lenfest Institute for Journalism Catalyst Grant, its first grant since becoming a nonprofit. The money will allow the Red Bank-based weekly newspaper, which covers 14 towns in eastern Monmouth County, to reach a broader audience, helping the publication grow.

A new video surveillance network will be installed throughout the borough by the end of this year to enhance public safety and aid investigations.

The picturesque flower beds and bistro lighting of Broadwalk will be expanded this year to grace side streets in the downtown district through a RiverCenter beautification project.

With the application deadline for the New Jersey Green Acres grant program fast approaching, several municipalities in the Two River area are seeking funds to revitalize or establish new parks that offer all-inclusive playgrounds, through a special allotment from the Jake’s Law program, extended to municipalities this year.

An exciting project is in the works that could be a beacon of fun for children with autism in the Two River area.

Monmouth County is known for its green space and two towns are about to get greener: A 62.5-acre forested parcel will be preserved and turned into the newest county park in Holmdel while Rumson has received a grant to renovate Meadow Ridge Park.
