FREEHOLD - Freehold Raceway, one of New Jersey’s most historic horse racing venues, will permanently close all live racing and simulcasting operations Dec. 28, 2024, marking the end of a nearly 170-year chapter in the state’s horse racing history.

May 4 saw the running of the 150th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. That race delivered on all the excitement, with Mystic Dan edging out Sierra Leone and Forever Young by a nose in the first three-way photo finish since 1947.

As Monmouth Park gears up for its 78th racing season, racetrack leadership held a press conference to share what’s new for 2023.

On May 13 Monmouth Park will kick off its 78th horse racing season, featuring 48 different stakes through September.

Jersey Shore couple Jeff and Kathleen Heiss, partners in Donegal Racing, are ecstatic about their formidable colt Mo Donegal, set to debut at Churchill Downs for the 148th running of the Kentucky Derby Saturday, May 7.
