T. Thomas Fortune, a fierce civil rights advocate and towering figure in the Black press, would be 170 years old Oct. 3. Nearly two centuries after his birth, the borough-based nonprofit that bears his name is working to carry his legacy forward with a community event focused on democracy, equality and civic engagement.
