MIDDLETOWN – It seemed like the entirety of Middletown gathered for the pageantry and tradition of North against South Thanksgiving Day, and this time, history was rewritten.

By the time the first downbeat drops on a crisp Friday night, the work has been going on for months – metronomes clicking in a band room, drill sets scribbled in pencil, and teenagers in the Two River area learning to move (and think) as one.

MIDDLETOWN – After 26 seasons, Steve Antonucci leaves a lasting legacy at Middletown South and with New Jersey high school football.

Middletown South’s Rosemary Shay upset the field by four seconds in the 3,200-meter, winning her first state championship with a time of 10:32. After closing her high school career on a high note, she will continue running at Villanova University.

The Middletown North Lions used a 6-goal second period to dominate their crosstown rival and retain the Mayor’s Cup for a third straight year. Five North players scored in the 9-2 victory over Middletown South.

Christian Brothers Academy’s vaunted cross country program continues to be one of the best in America.

Crosstown rivals Middletown North and Middletown South, separated by a mere 5 miles, met on the ice for the third time this season Feb. 27 to decide which team would be moving on to the state semifinals.

Makayla Jaffe’s left thigh was heavily taped and there were a number of times throughout the Central Jersey Group 3 championship game when she fell and struggled to get back up. But the senior was feeling no pain when she delivered a spectacular goal in double overtime.
