Residents of Tinton Falls who live along the Swimming River are concerned about a potential development that isn’t taking place in their borough.

In the words of Gretchen Wieners, “That was so fetch.”

The first phase of the Swimming River Park project was recently completed, marked by a ribbon-cutting event held May 1.

“Welcome to No Limits Cafe. Can I help you?” Hayley Lawrence of Middletown greets each customer who walks through the door with a smile. She has been employed by No Limits Cafe for three years, starting out as a server, and is now an assistant manager. She enjoys the job. “I like to interact with the customers and help people.”

In the waning business hours of Sabatos Prime Meats, the renowned Belford-based butcher shop, customers scrambled to purchase cuts of meat, express their gratitude and bid farewell to the butchers who have been a mainstay of the community for decades.

The township’s ambitious plan to revive the history and economic vitality of Route 36 has gained momentum. More than a hundred residents and business owners participated in the first community meeting organized by township officials to discuss redevelopment of Middletown’s section of the state corridor.

With neighboring Keansburg and Sandy Hook beaches reporting marine animal deaths recently, the governing body of Middletown Township has now joined several elected officials and activists across the state to ask for an immediate pause on federally authorized wind energy projects off the Jersey Shore.

Crosstown rivals Middletown North and Middletown South, separated by a mere 5 miles, met on the ice for the third time this season Feb. 27 to decide which team would be moving on to the state semifinals.

In 2018, New Jersey became the 13th state in the country to sanction girls wrestling for an official state championship. In five short years, there are now 695 female wrestlers competing in New Jersey, according to the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

The township has officially filed a complaint against the State of New Jersey claiming unfunded mandates from a bail reform statute have created financial costs for Middletown that it feels should be borne by the state.
