TINTON FALLS – Last Saturday and Sunday, the Two River area experienced another nearly perfect “local summer” weekend. And if you spent either of those days on a Long Branch beach, you might have Mia Grossman and a cohort of high school students to thank for its pristine condition.

LINCROFT – “No, no, I am as ugly as a bear,” cried Red Bank Catholic senior Sarah Moser last Saturday, spotlighted against a red curtain on the stage of Brookdale Community College’s Performing Arts Center. Moser, from Matawan, was one of five students taking her turn reciting passages from Shakespeare’s works for the Monmouth County English-Speaking Union’s (ESU) annual Shakespeare Competition for High School Students.

The Holmdel boys golf team lost head-to-head match-ups with Wall twice in the regular season, then finished third in both the Monmouth County and Shore Conference tournaments trailing the Crimson Knights once again.

A successful season on the diamond for local teams extended into the summer as 16 players from The Two River Times area were part of the Jersey Shore All-Stars team that won the Philadelphia Phillies Carpenter Cup. The Major League Baseball franchise puts on an annual event featuring 16 teams of high school all-stars from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.

One of New Jersey’s top ranked baseball teams was eager to find a challenge and they got one when the Ranney Panthers agreed to a last minute game that proved to be one of the best early season showdowns in the state.
