Red Bank Catholic (RBC) girls soccer coach Frank Lawrence was fired last month after he was arrested for allegedly shoving one of his players.

Red Bank Catholic’s athletic program has been one of the steadiest and most consistent both on and off the field for the better part of three decades and that stability will remain despite a change at the top. 

A successful season on the diamond for local teams extended into the summer as 16 players from The Two River Times area were part of the Jersey Shore All-Stars team that won the Philadelphia Phillies Carpenter Cup. The Major League Baseball franchise puts on an annual event featuring 16 teams of high school all-stars from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.

RBC has enjoyed tremendous success in the Shore Conference, winning four straight tournaments over the last five years. But when it came to the state playoffs, the Caseys have endured heartbreak in a variety of ways.

Some could argue that winning the Shore Conference baseball tournament is just as hard or even harder than a state title. That makes the run of Red Bank Catholic’s baseball team truly impressive in a league that will have multiple teams make deep runs in the upcoming state playoffs.

Red Bank Catholic opened the preseason as the No. 1 ranked baseball team in the state. Ranney took over the top spot during the regular season.

The road to Atlantic City is underway in high school wrestling.

Ranked inside the Top 10 of every national poll, the Saint John Vianney Lady Lancers haven’t faced too much adversity during their 27-0 season. That all changed when McDonald’s All-American Zoe Brooks arrived at Monmouth University for the Shore Conference Tournament championship on crutches with a protective boot on her right foot.

Not much has changed in 33 seasons at Red Bank Catholic. Joe Montano is still the fiery leader of the Caseys Girls Basketball team and still winning games. Following a 44-36 win over Scranton Prep last Saturday at home, Montano reached his 700th career win becoming just the sixth girls basketball coach in New Jersey history to reach the milestone.

The format was different, but the result was the same: For the second straight year, Red Bank Catholic girls basketball is a WOBM Christmas Classic champion following three wins in Toms River to close out 2022.
