A new slate of two Republican candidates will challenge the party’s incumbent county leaders in the upcoming June 10 primary election. Democrats also unveiled their candidates for the November election, who will run unopposed in the primaries.

SEA BRIGHT/RUMSON – Initial primary election results indicate familiar faces will appear on the November ballot in Sea Bright and Rumson.

The GOP maintained a stronghold on two major towns in the Two River area. In both Middletown and Holmdel, the Republican slates are far ahead in the race for committee spots.

Following the adoption of transgender student policy revisions last week by three county school boards, state Attorney General Matthew Platkin quickly filed lawsuits to halt the changes. Area Republican legislators were seemingly just as quick to fire back.

In a show of strength at the annual reorganization meeting Jan. 3 at the township’s municipal complex, several members of the county GOP were on hand to witness the swearing-in of Domenico “DJ” Luccarelli as mayor and Rocco Impreveduto as deputy mayor, along with recently elected committee members Brian Foster and Kimberly LaMountain.

At the township’s annual reorganization meeting Jan. 1, Tony Perry was reappointed to serve for the fifth consecutive year as mayor.

Republican candidates Rick Hibell and Kevin Settembrino were reelected by an overwhelming majority to the Middletown Township Committee Nov. 8.

It was a Republican sweep in Fair Haven as Mayor Josh Halpern held his seat and challengers Kristen Hoey and Andrew LaBarbera upset incumbent Democrats Meghan Chrisner-Keefe and Michael McCue for borough council.
