OCEANPORT – Netflix has begun hiring for its planned East Coast film production studio at the former Fort Monmouth campus, marking an early step in the company’s almost $1 billion redevelopment of the nearly 300-acre site.

OCEANPORT – The rise of New Jersey as “Hollywood East,” cemented last month with Netflix’s official closing on the Fort Monmouth Mega Parcel, was celebrated Monday by top company leaders and state and local government officials.

Until Netflix begins building its planned production facility on Fort Monmouth’s Mega Parcel, someone has to mow the grass.

It was over in 10 minutes. The long-awaited, highly anticipated opening of bids to purchase and redevelop a 292-acre portion of Fort Monmouth was officially conducted at 12:30 p.m.

Four months after The Two River Times broke the news that Gov. Phil Murphy’s outreach to major film production studios resulted in interest from Netflix, the entertainment company confirmed its intentions.
