FREEHOLD – Seventeen people were arrested in connection with a widespread illegal narcotics distribution ring in Monmouth County, as law enforcement personnel seized hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of drugs and paraphernalia.

Netflix Inc., on track to purchase almost 300 acres of the former Fort Monmouth U.S. Army base for a major production studio in Monmouth County, was designated a “Studio Partner” by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) last week, giving the entertainment giant access to expanded benefits under the state’s Film and Digital Media Tax Credit program.

TINTON FALLS – The borough planning board voted unanimously April 24 to approve two additions to Trinity Hall, the all-girls Catholic high school at Hope and Corregidor roads on former Fort Monmouth property.

The sale of a 31.25-acre site on the former Fort Monmouth U.S. Army base to Robert Wood Johnson/Barnabas Health has stalled following the discovery of “emerging” environmental concerns on the property.

The 12-soundstage production studio planned by Netflix for almost 300 acres of Fort Monmouth will run roughly down the center of the fort from Oceanport Avenue to Route 35.

The borough has obtained nearly $1.8 million in grant funds to offset the costs of construction projects to be completed in 2024. An overview of these capital projects was presented during the March 5 council meeting.

The county commissioners have introduced a $20 million bond ordinance to finance improvement costs to mitigate the odor from the Monmouth County Reclamation Center (MCRC) landfill that has angered residents for months.

Trinity Hall, the all-girls Catholic high school at 101 Corregidor Road on the former Fort Monmouth, is planning its second expansion since opening in 2015 in the base’s former Child Development Center.

Last month, the state Assembly voted 51-28 in favor of bill A4/S50 which would reform municipal responsibilities on affordable housing and abolish the state’s Council on Affordable Housing (COAH), replacing it with a set of new policies to settle housing development disputes.

FORT MONMOUTH – Shortly after 5 p.m. Feb. 21, members of the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) unanimously voted to approve revised plans for Netflix Studios Fort Monmouth, a major production studio on 292-plus acres of the former U.S. Army base.
