THE ANNUAL FORUM and networking event by for- ward-thinking people known as TEDxNavesink, is set to kick off on Saturday, April 11 at the Pollak Theatre at Monmouth University.
This year’s theme is “accelerators” which the organizers describe as “ideas that go faster than you think.”
More than two dozen speakers have been rehearsing thought-provoking talks on education, science, psychology, technology, sociology around the themes of Heal, Invent, Prosper and Re-Frame for an audience of 700.
TEDxNavesink has also become a huge networking event, said organizer Brian Smiga. “The organizers treat producing the conference as both a learning, networking and social experience,” said Smiga. “We have more than 50 organizers who meet in teams several times a month at Sawtooth, Two River Theater, in restaurants and area homes and porches. Many new collaborations inside and outside of TEDx have emerged.”
Among the speakers will be Phil D. Murphy of Middletown, the former US Ambassador to Germany, whose talk is called “New Jersey is a Buy,” about his initiative to start a non-profit called New Start New Jersey.
There will also be talks by healthcare advocate Sarah Krug of Red Bank on leveraging patient experiences; Mitchell Delmar of West Long Branch, on the explosion of narcotics addiction; weightlifter Karyn Marshall of Monmouth Beach, on women’s progress in athletics; Abby Daly of Locust, who advocates for literacy through her project, Bridge of Books; Brian Reynolds of Belford, on climate change solutions; Dr. Gary Lewandowski, Jr., Holmdel, on what makes a successful relationship and what leads someone to cheat.
Nearly all of the tickets have been sold, and now organizers are offering the remainder at discounts through their website for groups, half-day and attendees under 40 through TedXNavesink.com.
But for those who can’t come to the daylong event, talks will be video-taped and will be available for viewing through the website.
