George Edward Valavan, 70, passed away Sept. 29. Born in Mount Vernon, New York, he was raised and lived in Freehold. George graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School and the University of Dayton in ‘72. He spent his 20-year career in the sports apparel business selling and fitting uniforms and equipment to both professional and youth athletic teams. He moved to Long Branch and later retired to Naples, Florida.

The New York Yankees did not have a greater lifetime fan than George. All that knew him enjoyed his deep caring about their families and his unique sense of humor. He enjoyed golf, reading and the camaraderie of “fantasy baseball” friends.

George was predeceased by both his parents, Irene (Pilarella) and John Valavan and his aunt Flavia (Pilarella) Dolittle. Although George had no siblings or children, he became “part of the family” to his closest friends; he was a beloved, honorary uncle and godfather to many. He always was deeply caring and generous.

Final arrangements were made by the The Fuller Funeral Home (East) in Naples, Florida.
