ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS
The Atlantic Highlands Historical Society will be presenting Findings from Paranormal Investigations at the Strauss Mansion at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the Strauss Mansion, 27 Prospect Circle.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
Greg Caggiano, who is a board member and an avid practitioner of investigating paranormal activity, has conducted numerous paranormal investigations at the Strauss Mansion as well as other nearby locations.
He will share his findings and will discuss what techniques and technology are used to conduct his work and reveal evidence captured at the mansion and other nearby haunted locations.
Signed copies of his book, “Ghost Hunting Confidential: Investigating the Strauss Mansion,” will be available for sale after his lecture.
Caggiano also will be conducting a workshop and paranormal investigation at the mansion on Saturdays, Oct. 11 and 18. Those attending are asked to bring their own equipment, cameras, whatever they need for their own search, including a flashlight.

HIGHLANDS
Highlands Borough Arts Council invites the public to join sketch artists and art appreciators from all over the globe on Saturday, Oct. 18, to participate in an International Sketch Crawl.
After choosing from a variety of indoor and outdoor venues around town, participating artists of all ages and levels of ability will have three hours to sketch a scene from the colorful little town by the sea.
All participating artists will have the opportunity to hang their completed sketches at the Bay Avenue Bakery & Café at 111 Bay Ave. where they will be shown through the end of the month. With permission from the artists, some sketches will be made available for sale and/or be added to the HBAC website for further enjoyment.
Artists are asked to meet at 10:45 a.m. at the metal, onion-top gazebo at 92/98 Bay Ave.
Maps with suggested venues will be distributed. Artists must bring their own sketching supplies.

LONG BRANCH
St. James’ Episcopal Church will hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the 300 Broadway church.
The rain date will be Oct. 25.
All proceeds from the sale will go to St. James’ Thrift Shop to help defer the cost of replacing the boiler and chimney repair, both of which are necessary in order to keep the thrift shop open. The thrift shop is one of the church’s most vital ministries as it provides household goods and clothes to the neediest families of Long Branch.
From its proceeds, the thrift shop is able to annually donate approximately $6,000 to St. Brigid’s Pantry and Kitchen.
MIDDLETOWN
The Poricy Park Conservancy will sponsor a community fossil hunt during two sessions, 3 to 4:30 p.m. and 5 to 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct.12, at the 345 Oak Hill Road park.
An experienced guide will prepare attendees for their journey back in time 65 million years. Trowels and sifters will be provided and the guide will help identify fossils found.
Those attending are asked to dress for the weather and wear rubber boots or old sneakers because their feet will get wet. Sandals and slip-on footwear are prohibited. Bringing a small bag to hold the five best finds is suggested.
The activity is appropriate for adults and children, who must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.
Those participating should meet at the park nature center. Registration, including equipment rental, costs $8 per participant. There is a $32 family special per household. Those planning to walk in are asked to call ahead for availability.
The 250-acre park offers recreational activities, including wooded hiking trails, bird watching, pristine pond settings, fishing and a one-of-a-kind 70 million-year-old Cretaceous fossil bed.

Navesink Maritime Heritage Association will be holding a special canoeing day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at Chris’ River Plaza Marina at 483 W. Front St.
The event is for families, youth and adults. All are welcome to paddle the Swimming River in River Rangers canoes. NMHA will supply canoes, life vests and paddles. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
There is a fee of $10 per canoe to cover insurance and other expenses.

Middletown Arts Center and Poricy Park Conservancy are holding a benefit concert from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, featuring the Fort Delaware Cornet Band. The concert will be held at the arts center at 36 Church St.
The Fort Delaware Cornet Band is an authentic Civil War Era Brass Brand portraying an artillery band from Fort Delaware, playing brass music from the Civil War era. The group plays on authentic period instruments as well as performing in period reproduction Union uniforms of the Civil War. The Band is made up of music educators and musicians with both an extensive history in the Civil War reenacting community as well as in musical excellence.
The concert will be held at the Middletown Arts Center; tickets are $25 per person. Seating is limited. Tickets are available the Arts Center, Poricy Park at 345 Oak Hill Road and at the door, if available.

The Middletown Township Police Auxiliary is accepting applications for new members through November.
The township’s auxiliary officers are highly trained volunteers who serve the community in a variety of police-related tasks. Meetings and training are held on a regular basis.

RED BANK
Treasures & Trash Roadshow event will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, to benefit The Red Bank Borough Education Foundation.
Those attending may bring two items to be appraised by a panel of art, jewelry and collectible experts.
Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served at The Atrium, 20 Riverside Ave.
The donation is $60 per person.
