Shruti Chandrakant Deshpande and Hendrik James van Hemmen (Jake) were married on Aug. 24, at St. George’s-by-the-River Episcopal Church, Rumson.
The Rev. Ophelia Laughlin officiated. Sonya Naganathan, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor and Julius Reed was best man.
The wedding was followed by a reception at The Molly Pitcher Inn, Red Bank.
Shruti is the daughter of Dr. Chandrakant and Jyoti Deshpande, Bangalore, India. She is a graduate of Manipal Institute of Technology in Manipal, India, where she received a Bachelor of Engineering degree in electronics and communication. She is employed by Schlumberger, an international engineering firm, as a maintenance engineer.
Jake is the son of Rik and Anne van Hemmen, Fair Haven. He is a graduate of the Marine Academy of Science & Technology, Highlands, and the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pa., where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil and environmental engineering and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. He is employed by Schlumberger as a field engineer.
The couple reside in Lafayette, La.
